Understanding Your Struggles and How We Help You Heal

When you’re carrying the weight of trauma, relationship conflict, or feeling lost in your own life, it can feel like no one truly understands what you’re going through. You might experience overwhelming emotions that seem to come from nowhere, struggle to trust others, or find yourself stuck in patterns you can’t break. These aren’t character flaws. They’re your nervous system and mind responding to real pain. At Turning Tides Counselling & Life Coaching, we recognize that healing begins when someone finally gets it. Our Registered Therapeutic Counsellor brings five years of focused experience working with complex trauma and life transitions, paired with certification in trauma-informed care from Evergreen Certificates.

Our therapeutic approach centres on Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy as our foundation, complemented by somatic experiencing, acceptance and commitment therapy, and cognitive behavioural approaches. Rather than treating you as a diagnosis, we see you as someone with untapped strengths and wisdom inside. IFS helps you understand the different parts of yourself that may be protecting you or holding you back, then brings them into dialogue and cooperation. We also draw on somatic work to help your body release stored trauma, and mindfulness-based techniques to ground you in the present moment. Each method is chosen specifically for what will actually work for your situation, not applied as a one-size-fits-all formula.

What makes this work is the relationship itself. You’ll have online sessions lasting 50 minutes, with between-session email support to keep momentum going. We welcome clients from all cultural backgrounds and provide affirming care for LGBTQ+ individuals and diverse relationship structures. Coverage may be available through Canada Life, Green Shield Canada, Manulife, SunLife, or Pacific Blue Cross, depending on your individual policy. Our CPTSD support group and therapy book club offer affordable community alongside individual work, so you’re never healing alone.

The real shift happens when you stop fighting yourself and start understanding why you do what you do. That’s where genuine change begins.

What Is Therapeutic Approaches?

Therapeutic Approaches at Turning Tides Counselling & Life Coaching refers to the specific methods and techniques used to support your healing. Our Registered Therapeutic Counsellor draws from several evidence-based approaches, each selected based on what will work best for you. We use Internal Family Systems (IFS) informed work, which helps you understand different parts of yourself and how they interact. Somatic approaches connect your body and mind, recognising that trauma lives in the nervous system. We incorporate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to help shift thought patterns that keep you stuck. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) teaches you to live meaningfully even when difficult emotions arise. Polyvagal informed care helps regulate your nervous system. Attachment-based therapy addresses relational patterns. Compassion-focused work softens your inner critic. Mindfulness-based approaches bring awareness to the present moment. Relational therapy emphasises the healing power of connection. Strength-based work builds on what already works for you. Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) provides skills for emotional regulation and distress tolerance. What matters most is that our therapeutic approaches serving Vancouver and across British Columbia are tailored to your unique needs, not applied as a one-size-fits-all solution. During your first sessions together, we listen carefully to understand which approaches resonate with you. This personalised selection means you receive support that actually fits your life, your values, and your goals. Ready to discover which approaches might help you move forward?

Benefits of Our Therapeutic Approaches

Evidence-Based Approaches Tailored to Your Healing

Our therapeutic approaches combine the most effective, research-backed methods to address your unique needs and circumstances. We begin with Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, which helps you understand and integrate different parts of yourself that may be in conflict due to trauma, alongside somatic techniques that help your body release stored tension and fear. Whether you're working through past trauma, relationship challenges, or life transitions, we customize our use of cognitive behavioural approaches, acceptance and commitment strategies, and mindfulness-based practices to match where you are in your healing journey. This personalized blend means you receive exactly what your nervous system and emotional wellbeing need, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, allowing you to experience genuine transformation rather than simply managing symptoms.

Evidence-Based Therapeutic Approaches Tailored to Your Healing

Our therapeutic approaches serving all of British Columbia combine multiple evidence-based methods to address your unique needs and circumstances. We integrate Internal Family Systems (IFS) informed therapy, somatic experiencing techniques, polyvagal-informed approaches, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), attachment-based therapy, compassion-focused therapy, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, relational therapy, and dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) to create a personalized healing plan that works for you. Whether you're navigating complex trauma, relationship challenges, or life transitions, our Registered Therapeutic Counsellor draws from this diverse toolkit to help you develop healthier coping strategies, improve emotional regulation, and build lasting resilience that transforms how you experience yourself and your relationships.

Transforming Your Inner World Through Integrated Healing Approaches

Our therapeutic approaches serve as a bridge between understanding your past experiences and creating a more meaningful future. By integrating Internal Family Systems (IFS) work with somatic experiencing, dialectical behaviour therapy, and other evidence-based modalities, we help you develop a deeper relationship with yourself and unlock patterns that may have been holding you back. This holistic integration supports not only symptom relief but genuine transformation, allowing you to reconnect with your sense of purpose and live more authentically. Whether you're navigating trauma recovery, relationship healing, or personal growth across British Columbia through our online services, our compassionate, trauma-informed approach honours your whole self and guides you toward lasting wellbeing.

Evidence-Based Therapeutic Approaches Tailored to Your Needs

Our therapeutic approaches serving Vancouver and across British Columbia combine Internal Family Systems (IFS) informed therapy, somatic experiencing, cognitive behavioural techniques, and acceptance and commitment strategies to address the root causes of emotional pain and relationship challenges. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all method, we work collaboratively with you during our first sessions to understand what resonates most with your unique situation, whether you're managing trauma responses, navigating relationship conflicts, or working through life transitions. This personalised approach means you'll develop practical skills you can use immediately in your daily life, such as recognising and responding to emotional triggers with greater awareness, communicating more authentically with loved ones, or building resilience when facing difficult moments. By combining these evidence-based methods, you'll gain concrete tools for lasting change that extend far beyond our sessions together.

Therapeutic Approaches That Empower Your Lasting Transformation

Our evidence-based therapeutic approaches serving British Columbia are thoughtfully designed to equip you with skills and insights that extend far beyond our sessions together. By integrating Internal Family Systems (IFS), Somatic Experiencing, Polyvagal Theory, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), attachment-based therapy, compassion-focused therapy, mindfulness-based practices, relational therapy, strength-based approaches, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), we create a personalized roadmap that honours your unique healing journey. These therapeutic methods serve to build your self-sufficiency, helping you develop the confidence and competence to navigate life's challenges independently while maintaining the resilience you've cultivated. Through our collaborative, trauma-informed approach, you'll discover that true healing isn't about becoming dependent on therapy; it's about becoming the expert of your own wellbeing, equipped with practical tools and profound self-awareness that support sustained growth long after our work together concludes.
