Understanding Grief and Our Approach to Healing After Loss

Grief doesn’t follow a timeline or rulebook. You might feel overwhelmed one moment and numb the next. Maybe you’re struggling to get through daily tasks, or finding that well-meaning advice from others doesn’t touch the depth of what you’re experiencing. When loss intersects with past trauma or complicated relationships, the pain can feel impossible to navigate alone. Our grief counselling recognizes that your experience is unique, shaped by your relationship to what you’ve lost and everything you’ve lived through before.

As a Registered Therapeutic Counsellour with certification in trauma from Evergreen Certificates, I bring specialized understanding to how grief and trauma interact in your nervous system. We begin with Internal Family Systems (IFS) informed therapy, which helps you understand the different parts of yourself that are responding to loss. Some parts may want to push feelings away while others feel consumed by sadness. This approach, combined with somatic methods and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, creates space for all your reactions without judgment. Whether you’re processing the death of someone close, the end of a relationship, or another significant loss, we work at your pace to build capacity for the emotions that arise.

What makes grief counselling at Turning Tides Counselling & Life Coaching different is the integration of trauma informed care with practical support for moving forward. Many clients come to us after trying to ‘get over it’ on their own, only to find that unprocessed grief shows up as anxiety, depression, or difficulty in current relationships. Our virtual sessions serving Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, and communities throughout British Columbia mean you can access support from wherever feels safe. We welcome clients from all cultural backgrounds and honour diverse ways of understanding and expressing grief. Sessions may include individual counselling or couples therapy when loss affects your partnership. Coverage may be available through your insurance plan with providers including Manulife, Canada Life, and Pacific Blue Cross.

You don't have to carry this weight alone.

Rediscover Meaning and Connection After Loss

Grief can leave you feeling disconnected from yourself and others, but our compassionate grief counselling serving Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, and communities across British Columbia helps you rebuild meaningful connections while honouring your loss. Through our trauma-informed approach, you'll learn to navigate relationships with family and friends who may not understand your grief journey, express your needs clearly, and find ways to stay connected to cherished memories without being overwhelmed by pain. Many clients discover that as they process their grief, they begin to reconnect with parts of themselves they thought were lost forever, finding renewed purpose in hobbies, relationships, or new directions that honour both their past and their future. Turning Tides Counselling & Life Coaching's grief support available in Metro Vancouver, Vancouver Island, and throughout B.C. creates a safe space where you can explore what gives your life meaning now, helping you move from simply surviving each day to building a life that integrates your loss while opening space for joy, connection, and hope.

Rediscovering Meaning and Connection After Loss

Grief can feel like losing your way in the world, but it also opens doorways to profound transformation and renewed purpose. Our trauma-informed grief counselling serving Vancouver, Victoria, Kelowna, and communities throughout British Columbia helps you honour your loss while gently reconnecting with what brings meaning to your life. Through compassionate exploration of your emotions, relationships, and values, you'll discover that healing doesn't mean forgetting; it means integrating your experience into a fuller, more authentic version of yourself. This holistic approach nurtures not just emotional recovery, but also spiritual growth and deeper connections with yourself and others, allowing you to carry forward the love and lessons from those you've lost while building a life that honours both your past and your future.

Rebuilding Daily Routines and Finding Stability After Loss

Grief often disrupts the familiar rhythms of daily life, leaving you feeling unmoored and uncertain about how to move forward. Our compassionate grief counselling serving Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, and communities across British Columbia helps you gently rebuild structure and stability in your everyday life. You'll learn practical strategies to navigate challenging moments like anniversaries or holidays, develop new routines that honour your loss while supporting your healing, and gradually reconnect with activities that bring meaning and comfort. Through our trauma-informed approach, you'll discover how to balance honouring your grief with re-engaging in life, creating a sustainable path forward that respects both your pain and your capacity for growth.

Building Lifelong Resilience Beyond Loss

Grief doesn't end when counselling does. It transforms. Our compassionate grief counselling serving Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, and communities across British Columbia equips you with enduring emotional tools that extend far beyond your sessions with us. You'll develop a personalized resilience toolkit drawing from Internal Family Systems (IFS), trauma-informed approaches, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) that becomes yours to carry forward through life's inevitable transitions. These aren't temporary coping strategies. They're sustainable practices for navigating future losses, honouring your grief journey, and discovering renewed meaning. Long after our work together concludes, you'll possess the self-awareness and emotional flexibility to process difficult emotions independently, transforming grief from something that happens to you into wisdom that shapes your continued growth and deepens your capacity for connection, compassion, and authentic living.
