Understanding the Struggles Behind Isolation and Finding Healing Through Connection

Many people dealing with complex trauma or CPTSD feel profoundly alone. The symptoms are confusing. The emotional weight feels unbearable. You might struggle to regulate your feelings, find it hard to trust others, or feel disconnected from yourself. Individual therapy helps, but something crucial is missing: the realisation that you are not the only one experiencing this. That realisation changes everything. Our group programs serving British Columbia create spaces where this understanding becomes possible, where your experience is validated by others who truly comprehend what you are going through.

At Turning Tides Counselling and Life Coaching, we offer group experiences designed around trauma informed care that address the core issue beneath isolation: the belief that your struggles are uniquely yours to bear alone. Our CPTSD support group brings together individuals navigating complex trauma, while our therapy book club creates connection through shared reading and reflection on healing. Both programs integrate evidence-based approaches including Internal Family Systems therapy, somatic work, and mindfulness practices. Kotone Frankowski, a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor with certification in trauma work, facilitates these groups with five years of clinical experience and a genuine commitment to creating safety.

What makes our approach different is this: we understand that healing from trauma happens not just in the quiet of a one-on-one session, but in the presence of others who recognise your pain without judgment. You gain practical coping skills. You witness others’ progress and find hope. You discover that vulnerability, when held by a skilled facilitator and compassionate peers, becomes a pathway to genuine change. Our groups meet regularly online, making them accessible across the province, and are priced affordably because we believe healing should not depend on your financial circumstances.

The single most important shift our group members report is this: they stop feeling broken and start feeling understood. That shift, that moment when you realise you are not alone and that recovery is genuinely possible, is where real transformation begins.

What Is Group Programs?

Group Programs at Turning Tides Counselling & Life Coaching bring together people who share similar struggles with trauma, emotional regulation, and life transitions. These programs offer something individual sessions cannot: the healing power of community. When you sit with others who truly understand what you are experiencing, something shifts. You realize you are not alone. You discover that recovery is possible because you see it happening in real time, in the faces and stories of people beside you.

Our group programs address Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, anxiety, relationship challenges, and the deeper work of rebuilding self-esteem and discovering life purpose. We offer a CPTSD support group where members share experiences and learn evidence-based strategies for managing trauma responses. We also facilitate a group therapy book club focused on trauma and healing, where reading becomes a doorway to understanding yourself and connecting with others on similar paths. Both formats combine psychoeducation with emotional support, creating space for real conversation about what recovery actually looks like.

Led by Kotone Frankowski, a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor with training in Internal Family Systems, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and trauma-informed care, these groups maintain the safety and clinical depth you need while offering the affordability and accessibility of a group setting. Sessions are offered online, making participation possible whether you live in Vancouver or anywhere across British Columbia. We welcome diverse communities, including LGBTQ+ individuals, and design all groups with careful attention to creating environments where you can show up authentically.

The real work happens when you realize that healing is not something you do alone in a quiet room. It happens when you speak your truth and hear someone say, ‘I understand.’ It happens when you learn a new skill and watch others apply it to their own lives. That is what our group programs offer: professional guidance paired with the irreplaceable support of people walking a similar road. Reach out to discuss which group program might be right for you.
