Understanding Isolation in Trauma: Why Group Healing Works

When you’re carrying the weight of complex trauma or CPTSD, isolation feels safer than connection. You believe no one else understands what you’ve been through, so you withdraw. But this silence deepens the wound. Our online group programs serving British Columbia address this directly. They create spaces where you discover you’re not alone, where others have walked similar paths and survived. This shift from isolation to belonging often marks the turning point in healing.

Turning Tides’ group programs combine peer support with professional guidance grounded in trauma informed care. Each week, participants engage in discussions about healing through literature in our therapy book club, or share experiences in our CPTSD support group. You’re not sitting passively listening to a counsellor. You’re in conversation with people who genuinely understand difficult emotions, managing trauma responses, and rebuilding trust in yourself. Our facilitator, a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor with certification in trauma work, ensures the space stays safe and grounded in evidence based methods including Internal Family Systems, somatic approaches, and acceptance and commitment therapy.

The practical advantages matter too. These programs are affordable, meeting weekly at consistent times so you can plan around them. You attend from home, removing barriers that might otherwise keep you from showing up. Whether you’re in Metro Vancouver or a remote community across the province, you access the same quality care. Coverage may be available based on your individual insurance policy with providers like Canada Life, Green Shield Canada, and Manulife.

What changes first isn’t your trauma history. It’s the realisation that healing doesn’t happen in silence. It happens in rooms where you’re seen, heard, and accepted exactly as you are.

What Is Online Group Programs?

Online Group Programs at Turning Tides Counselling & Life Coaching bring together people navigating similar challenges in a supportive, confidential space. Whether you’re working through the effects of complex trauma, managing difficult emotions, or seeking connection with others on a healing path, our groups offer something individual sessions cannot: the profound relief of knowing you’re not alone.

Our online groups address a wide range of experiences. Many participants are healing from Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD), which develops when someone has endured repeated or prolonged trauma. Others join to build skills for managing anxiety, depression, or relationship challenges. Some come seeking accountability as they work toward personal growth and life purpose. What unites them is access to care informed by trauma research, delivered by Kotone Frankowski, who holds certification from Evergreen Certificates in trauma work and brings over five years of experience facilitating healing conversations.

The group format itself becomes therapeutic. You’ll encounter evidence-based approaches including Internal Family Systems work, which helps you understand different parts of yourself; somatic techniques that reconnect you with your body; cognitive behavioural strategies; acceptance and commitment therapy; and dialectical behaviour therapy. Between sessions, you receive email support to help you apply what you’ve learned. The groups run weekly across time zones, making participation possible whether you live in Vancouver, Victoria, Kelowna, or anywhere across British Columbia and beyond.

Affordability matters. Our groups cost significantly less than individual counselling, removing financial barriers to care. We also welcome diverse identities and relationship structures, including LGBTQ2S+ individuals and those in non-traditional relationships. Each group maintains strict confidentiality so members can share authentically.

Many participants report feeling less isolated within weeks, as they realize they're not alone in their struggles and that recovery is genuinely possible when supported by a compassionate community.

Connect with Others Who Truly Understand Your Journey

Our online group programs create a powerful sense of community by bringing together individuals across British Columbia who are navigating similar emotional challenges and healing paths. Rather than working through trauma or life transitions alone, you'll discover the profound relief that comes from sharing experiences with peers who genuinely understand what you're facing, whether that's managing complex trauma responses, rebuilding self-esteem, or strengthening relationships. This shared understanding reduces the isolation that often accompanies emotional pain and creates a safe space where vulnerability becomes strength. By participating in our trauma-informed group therapy and book club discussions, you'll not only receive professional guidance from a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor, but you'll also gain the encouragement and accountability that comes from a supportive community, helping you move forward with greater confidence and hope.
